Dietitian

Many people often neglect the nutrition side of their health. However, nutrition is an important part of the treatment of many health conditions. Whether you have a current medical condition or not, by identifying areas of improvement in your diet you can help your health and well-being.

Richelle Flanagan, Dietitian BA (Physiology), MSc (Human Nutrition and Dietetics), MINDI

A Dietitian is a health professional who is qualified at university level to give accurate advice and information on nutrition and diet. Richelle Flanagan is a member of Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute, the professional body for dietitians practicing in Ireland. She currently works as a dietitian in a large acute general hospital. She is a former international hockey player, with direct experience of the nutritional and motivational demands of high performance sport.

The main nutritional areas covered by the dietitian are as follows:

  • Diet check a general review of your current nutritional health status
  • Weight or eating problems e.g. to lose or gain weight, disordered eating
  • Medical conditions e.g. gastro-intestinal disorders, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cancer
  • Women's health e.g. pre, during & post pregnancy, bladder problems, PCOS, menopause, fertility, osteoporosis
  • Sports Nutrition e.g. diet for sport, hydration, training & competing
  • Elderly e.g. malnutrition, post operative/illness recovery, dysphagia, dementia (advice to carers), osteoporosis, arthritis
